Cynara cardunculus
The large silver leaves and tall purple thistle like flowers bring texture and drama to the garden. This variety is gardener friendly with no nasty spines on the leaves. Flowers are honey scented and are much loved by bees and the leaves are edible when cooked and taste much like artichoke. Plants are perennial in most areas but may not survive heavy frosts in cooler regions.
